Half Pigeon Pose, or Eka Pada Rajakapotasana, is one of the final poses youll practice in. In other words we want that pigeon leg to be turned to. Follow these tips to add a hip-opening pose to your yoga practice.
This improves hip flexibility and prepares the body for intense and advanced stretches. I think the alignment of the outer knee with the outer hip is very important. It stretches the gluteus maximus and piriformis muscles. Pigeon pose, as it is commonly known, is a preparatory pose for the more advanced eka pada raja kapotasana (one legged king pigeon in Sanskrit). This is a very comfortable asana and it provides significant and long-lasting benefits, it can even be performed by beginners but there are some things to bear in mind: you should listen carefully to your body whilst performing this asana, don’t try to go beyond your capability and be gentle with your body. Reclining pigeon acts as a hip opener pose.
Today´s suggestion is the Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Sleeping Pigeon Pose) Id love to meet the first yoga teacher to tell students to take the knee out to the side of the hip in pigeon pose. ¨I have chosen the postures that seem to me to be the simplest and most accessible to almost everyone, and which also represent the essence of classic Hatha Yoga.¨ We proudly present our very own in-house Yoga teacher MARTA!! Since Yoga is in her blood, we thought it would be a nice idea to let her tell you some more about the benefits of certain yoga postures, as we can all do with a little inspiration in these challenging times!
